The high school robotics class has designed and built a cyclical flood hydroponic system that has 15 bins for flowering plants and 15 bins for vegetative plants built into a six inch PVC pipe. Water from a pump flows through the system, half an hour on and half an hour off. Excess water drains back into a holding tank, where it is cycled through again. Continuous airflow is pumped through the roots with a series of air bubbler stones. The nutrient level is tested in the holding tank and adjusted when necessary. The system is designed to hold water in the pipes so that if there is a power outage, the roots won't be left to dry.
